Air purifiers can absorb, decompose or transform various air pollutants (generally including PM2.5, dust, pollen, odor, formaldehyde and other decoration pollutants, bacteria, allergens, etc.), effectively improving air cleanliness. At present, the overall domestic air purifier retail market demand is sluggish, but the overall export is still at a high level, which is the main driving force for the growth of domestic air purifier production capacity. Data show that China's air purifier production capacity has increased from 13.578 million in 2016 to more than 40 million in 2022.
As far as the market scale trend of China's air purifiers is concerned, the retail sales of China's air purifiers continued to decline after reaching its peak in 2017, mainly due to factors such as the gradual saturation of downstream demand and the single overall application. As of 2020, the sales of China's air purifiers will be 6.26 billion yuan, down 31% year on year. From 2021 to 2022, the retail sales of China's air purifiers will continue to decline while the downstream real estate is sluggish, retail sales of air purifiers in China will be 4.83 billion yuan in 2022, down 18.7 from 2021. In terms of sub-channel sales, under the background of the epidemic, online e-commerce has accelerated its development and penetration, increasing the delivery scope of packages, shortening the delivery time, and gradually reflecting the online price advantage. At the same time, long-term online consumption has cultivated the online consumption habits of some consumers, and the online retail sales of air purifiers continue to increase. Data show that the online retail sales of air purifiers in 2022 accounted for 86%, up 4% from 2021. As far as the platform sales pattern is concerned, with the continuous development and penetration of live e-commerce, the market sales ability of chattering e-commerce as an emerging channel has been proved and cashed out. With the continuous development of marketing methods such as live delivery and grass planting, the platform e-commerce channel has been squeezed and the market scale has shrunk. Data show that in 2022, China's air purifier will account for about 50% of the platform e-commerce sales and 47% of professional e-commerce, shake sound e-commerce as an emerging field has also reached 3%.
In terms of changes in import and export volume, with the continuous expansion of domestic overall air purifier production capacity and the continuous increase in international air purifier demand, China's air purifier will continue to rise until 2020, reaching a peak of 36.735 million units in recent years in 2020. The overall international demand will drop to the pre-epidemic level in 2021-2022. In 2022, China's air purifier export volume will be 21.697 million units, mainly exported to the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Pakistan and Pakistan and other countries, Asia and North America, imports as a whole have steadily increased in recent years after a significant decline in 2018, reaching 1.533 million units in 2022.
